Commanders draft Keionte Scott
- Cornerback | Miami Hurricanes
- Round No. 3 | Pick No. 72
I was going to go through my final mock draft without making any trades, but as general manager Adam Peters may experience during the process this year, plans can change quickly.
In this scenario, the Cincinnati Bengals give up two sixth-round selections to move up one spot. That was simply too good to refuse, and there was still an intriguing prospect in a position of need for the Commanders to take.
It's no secret that the Commanders need more in their cornerback room. Speculation is rising around LSU prospect Mansoor Delane being a lively candidate for the No. 7 pick, but much will depend on how the board falls. If Peters waits a little longer, he could address the position with his next pick in the third round.
Keionte Scott could be a perfect scheme fit for the system Daronte Jones plans to run. He flies to the football with calculated aggression, making him a force against the run. He's also versatile enough to play anywhere in the secondary, though the number of missed tackles needs to come down in the pros.
Commanders draft Deion Burks
- Wide Receiver | Oklahoma Sooners
- Round No. 5 | Pick No. 147
The Commanders have to get another weapon or two for quarterback Jayden Daniels. This is particularly significant in the wide receiver room, which looks a little light on dependable options right now.
Terry McLaurin is a stud and should be again if he can stay healthy. The Commanders are relying on a young player breaking out behind him, so the need for more is glaring.
Someone like Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, or maybe even Makai Lemon could be considered in the first round. There is the lingering cloud of Brandon Aiyuk's potential arrival, but even that is no sure thing after everything he's been through over the last year.
Washington could do a lot worse than examine Deion Burks here. He's a fluid route runner with good body control and the ability to create yards after the catch. David Blough would have fun scheming up ways to get the football in his hands if the Commanders went down this route.
Commanders draft Trey Zuhn III
- Center | Texas A&M Aggies
- Round No. 6 | Pick No. 187
The Commanders' decision to release starting center Tyler Biadasz will continue to look strange, at least from the outside, until their replacement strategy becomes clearer. With stability elsewhere along the offensive line, the doubts around the anchor role have the scope to unravel everything.
Adam Peters gave Nick Allegretti an early extension. Dan Quinn hinted that Brandon Coleman could get a shot, but both seem like risky options in a critical campaign for quarterback Jayden Daniels. And this looks like a decent draft class to pick up a potential hidden gem who could become something more.
Anyone who's followed my mock drafts will know how high I am on Trey Zuhn III. He's a plus athlete with all the size requirements needed. The arm length may not be ideal, but the pass protection is outstanding. If the Texas A&M product can improve his play strength to be more impactful against the run, this could be a steal.
