The Washington Commanders are inching closer to their big decision at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. It's been another long, arduous process with fresh rumors flying around every day. Everyone has an opinion, but the only ones that matter come from those inside the building.
Some intriguing prospects won't be around. One or two could fall, but there is just no telling for sure. And considering what could happen in front of the Commanders, former Washington star Logan Paulsen believes he may have the answer.
According to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan, who hosts a podcast with the former pro, the tight end turned analyst thought the Commanders would eventually take LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane. That's not a guarantee, but the prediction was based on what prospects might be available when Washington goes on the clock.

Paulsen is not alone, either. Several other shrewd analysts have the Commanders as the perfect landing spot for Delane, especially if Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles are no longer around. This also reflects a recent report from Jordan Reid of ESPN, who thought corner and wide receiver would be addressed with Washington's two picks in the top 100.

Peters has covered his bases with Delane. They've made their interest clear throughout the assessment process, bringing in the defensive back for a visit while also speaking to him at length at the NFL Scouting Combine. They've been keen to learn more, and this addresses a significant need as well.
The Commanders are desperately short of dependable cornerbacks. Trey Amos and Mike Sainristil both have promise, but this squad doesn't have a legitimate shutdown presence capable of locking down one side of the field. Delane could rise into this sort of player quickly, so there is a lot of merit to placing him high on the shortlist.
Obviously, quarterback Jayden Daniels needs more firepower. Carnell Tate would be difficult to turn down, but the Cleveland Browns could take him at No. 6. Jordyn Tyson might also be gone, and No. 7 seems a little too high for Makai Lemon. Jeremiyah Love would be the prize, but reports suggest No. 4 might be his floor now.
Peters will take the prospect at the top of his board and worry about the rest later. The Commanders have enough salary-cap space to fill remaining needs after the draft. Just take the No. 1 option available at the time, and that could very well be Delane when push comes to shove.
It is a decision that Peters cannot afford to get wrong. Depending on what goes on in the six picks prior, Delane might be the safest bet of all.
