The Washington Commanders have a huge microscope on their fortunes next season. Their high expectations weren't met during the previous campaign, and everyone is eager to right this wrong at the earliest possible opportunity.

But the NFL's official schedule reveal hit home for fans just how challenging it's going to be to return to the playoff conversation.

Nobody should be under any illusions now. The Commanders have an extremely difficult set of games, and the structure hasn't exactly been favorable. It's a brutal start, with the opening six weeks bringing several tests that head coach Dan Quinn's squad must navigate effectively to stand any chance of building the momentum needed.

Commanders must be ready from the jump when the 2026 campaign arrives

Two divisional road games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys to start. A home opener versus the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. An international clash with the Indianapolis Colts, followed by the New York Giants immediately after. And before their Week 7 bye? A long trip to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.

It doesn't get much easier after that, either.

The first two games after the bye week are the Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams. Washington also plays the Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals at the business end of the campaign. And to finish, it's the AFC South champion Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cowboys at Northwest Stadium in the finale.

  • Week 1: at Eagles
  • Week 2: at Cowboys
  • Week 3: vs. Seahawks
  • Week 4: vs. Colts (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London)
  • Week 5: vs. NY Giants
  • Week 6: at 49ers (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 7: Bye Week
  • Week 8: vs. Eagles (Sunday Night Football)
  • Week 9: vs. LA Rams
  • Week 10: at NY Giants (Thursday Night Football)
  • Week 11: vs. Bengals (Monday Night Football)
  • Week 12: at Cardinals
  • Week 13: at Titans
  • Week 14: vs. Texans
  • Week 15: vs. Falcons
  • Week 16: vs. Vikings
  • Week 17: at Jaguars
  • Week 18: vs. Cowboys

There is no real respite. The Commanders have to roll up their sleeves, prepare effectively over the summer, and make sure they are ready to take off right out of the gate. Anything less is going to cause unnecessary problems for a team with an enormous amount at stake next season.

This notion will not be lost on Quinn. There are still murmurings about his job status being shaky without the correct strides, and this schedule is not going to help. Quarterback Jayden Daniels has no margin for error, either, especially after missing so much time in 2025.

Fans are cautiously optimistic. But the Commanders face pivotal hurdles to achieve this objective.

And the margin for error has gone completely.
