Despite selecting Antonio Williams at No. 71 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, fans and analysts still believe the Washington Commanders need another wide receiver for quarterback Jayden Daniels to depend upon. With options on the free-agent market dwindling, general manager Adam Peters needs to act quickly.
And one analyst added his name to the growing list of those who believe a move for Jauan Jennings makes sense.
Jennings left his visit with the Minnesota Vikings without a deal. The Commanders have reportedly reached out, though team insider Ben Standig reported that it was due diligence rather than an aggressive pursuit. But if the money works, it wouldn't be a bad addition by any stretch of the imagination.
Commanders urged to delve deeper into Jauan Jennings arrival to boost WR room
Zachary Perelus of CBS Sports agrees. He thought wide receiver was the Commanders' biggest need. And even though there is speculation linking Washington with Brandon Aiyuk, Jennings would provide the aggression and size needed opposite Terry McLaurin.
"The Commanders were in on both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs but ended up with neither. Brandon Aiyuk has been bandied about for months, but he's far from a sure thing. Jennings would provide the needed size and toughness opposite Terry McLaurin and become a trusted option for Jayden Daniels."
Peters knows Jennings well from their time together on the San Francisco 49ers. Daniels wants to reunite with Aiyuk, but there is just no telling when the NFC West club will cut ties. If the Commanders are unwilling to send over a late-round selection to expedite the process, they may turn their attention to other options until the time comes.
Jennings isn't particularly liked by opponents around the league. He had a fierce confrontation with Carolina Panthers safety Tre'von Moehrig last season, and defensive lineman Shelby Harris blasted the wideout for his on-field antics. But if Peters thinks it can help, and the money works for all parties, there are far worse avenues Washington's front-office leader could go down.
Reports indicate Jennings priced himself out of the early stages of free agency. With offseason programs gathering pace around the league, the former Tennessee Volunteers standout is looking for an opportunity. The Commanders represent a solid option, but whether anything concrete emerges remains to be seen.
Peters may be waiting for Aiyuk. He may be satisfied with what he has. But looking at the receiver depth chart as things stand, getting another option with proven production is only going to help Washington's cause.
And Jennings' upward trajectory is more intriguing than most.
