Commanders QBs (3)
- Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, Athan Kaliakmanis
There is not much to figure out here. Jayden Daniels is the franchise player, and the Washington Commanders' hopes will be predicated on his health and overall performance levels. Veteran signal-caller Marcus Mariota will back him up after receiving another one-year deal, which is set in stone.
The Commanders are holding a battle for the QB3 job between Sam Hartman and seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis. Both hopefuls got a lot of work over early offseason workouts, and reports suggest the first-year pro has the upper hand right now.
Commanders RBs (4)
- Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Kaytron Allen, Jerome Ford
Dan Quinn said he wasn't sure how the running back dynamic would shake out. There is competition for places, with several fancying their chances of securing roles. Everything should be clearer as we move deeper into the summer, and it will be fascinating to watch.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt will go through after his impressive rookie campaign. Free-agent signing Rachaad White has caught the eye and should play a key role. Sixth-round pick Kaytron Allen is another who's flashed quality, and Jerome Ford is tentatively chosen over Jeremy McNichols for the final spot.
Commanders WRs (6)
- Terry McLaurin, Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane
There is a lingering cloud hanging over the wide receiver room. Brandon Aiyuk's arrival may be imminent when he is released by the San Francisco 49ers, but his actions on social media are enough to cause concern. Until then, the Commanders seem satisfied enough with what they have.
Terry McLaurin will lead the charge. Rookie wideout Antonio Williams is also making a strong case for his fair share of targets right away. Treylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown, and Jaylin Lane are all relatively unproven, but they have more long-term upside than someone like Van Jefferson Jr., who impressed over Washington's mandatory minicamp.
Commanders TEs (4)
Chig Okonkwo, John Bates, Ben Sinnott, Colson Yankoff
There is a new alpha in Washington's tight end room. Chig Okonkwo was a high-priority signing in free agency, and it's not hard to see why. He's fast, explosive, and a significant threat after the catch. If his strong early connection with Jayden Daniels continues, the Commanders may have a massive steal on their hands.
David Blough plans to feature tight ends heavily within his scheme. One man cannot do it alone, so more is expected of John Bates and 2024 second-round pick Ben Sinnott. If the Commanders take four onto the roster, which seems likely, Colson Yankoff is the clear frontrunner for the final spot.
Commanders OL (9)
- Laremy Tunsil, Chris Paul, Nick Allegretti, Sam Cosmi, Josh Conerly Jr., Andrew Wylie, Brandon Coleman, Matt Gulbin, Trent Scott
The Commanders have a couple of conundrums on their offensive line, with two battles ongoing for the starting left guard and center positions. Nick Allegretti is the favorite to anchor the protection over sixth-round rookie Matt Gulbin, but the fight between Chris Paul and Brandon Coleman could legitimately go either way.
Fortunately, the Commanders also have three cornerstones in the other spots. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil and right guard Sam Cosmi are proven commodities at the highest level. Josh Conerly Jr. worked exceptionally hard over the offseason, looking to build on his encouraging performances over the second half of 2025.
Depth might need a little more, but the blocking concepts David Blough plans to install look pretty solid.
