Amik Robertson - Commanders CB

There were a few eyebrows raised when the Washington Commanders' first notable signing in free agency turned out to be veteran cornerback Amik Robertson. It came out of left field, with many wondering if he was worth what Adam Peters was willing to pay. He's heard all the critics, and he is already trying to silence them.

Robertson might be undersized, and he wouldn't be classed as an elite athlete by any stretch. However, he is versatile and adaptable to any situation. More importantly, the defensive back is setting a different tone at OTAs, challenging his teammates through exceptional effort and offering counsel to younger corners in the room.

This is pretty much as advertised for Robertson. Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell couldn't have been more complimentary about the player. He already looks like the perfect culture fit in Washington's locker room, and concerns around his outlook are rapidly fading.

Luke McCaffrey - Commanders WR

As mentioned previously, the Commanders are giving their young wide receivers behind Terry McLaurin a chance to carve out roles for themselves. There is a level of comfort in the options available, but Adam Peters won't hesitate to make changes if he isn't satisfied with what he's seeing.

While the Commanders' preparations for the new campaign are still in their infancy, some wideouts are already catching the eye of those watching closely at OTAs. One of those is Luke McCaffrey, who is looking to prove he is more than just a special teams ace in Year 3 of his professional career.

McCaffrey is a Pro Bowl-caliber kick returner, but he wants more. He looks dynamic, sharp, and has typically reliable hands when opportunities come his way. There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead, but the No. 100 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is making a strong case for his fair share of targets.

Sonny Styles - Commanders LB

Sonny Styles continues to impress. Expectations couldn't be much higher for the No. 7 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the linebacker has done nothing to diminish these hopes during an exceptional transition into the Commanders.

Washington is making Styles earn it, just like every other draft pick chosen by the current regime. It's brought a positive response from the linebacker, whose speed, dynamism, and high football intelligence have already left a mark on both teammates and reporters alike.

Styles has all the makings of a defensive linchpin at the second level. The Commanders also have Frankie Luvu, Leo Chenal, and Jordan Magee to call upon, but the Ohio State product is aiming to be the top dog. And though bigger tests are coming over the summer, he's got the tools to achieve this objective quickly.

There is a superstar energy to Styles that is hard not to love. And the best is yet to come.
