Rasul Douglas - Commanders CB
The Washington Commanders bolstered their cornerback options by signing Rasul Douglas just before training camp. With Trey Amos still working his way back, having another dependable veteran to lean on was essential, and it looks like he might be able to force his way onto the rotation when the regular season commences.
Douglas knows what he's doing. He's a solid professional with proven production at the highest level. With 21 career takeaways, he knows how to get around the football through timing and sound positioning. It's still early days, but the positive efforts so far haven't gone unnoticed.
The former West Virginia standout has been sticky in coverage. Washington has run red-zone situations for the most part so far, and Douglas' physicality has been a major asset in this area. Finishing Day 2 of training camp with a pick-six only helped smooth his transition.
And even when Amos does get back, Douglas should still have a role to play in 2026.
Dyami Brown - Commanders WR
There are already concerns brewing about the lack of consistency in the wide receiver room behind Terry McLaurin. Some reporters quickly endorsed a move for Stefon Diggs after seeing for themselves what else is available to Washington, but it hasn't been all bad.
Dyami Brown is among the positives. The wideout is getting a second chance in Washington this season after an ill-fated year with the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was a rude awakening in no uncertain terms, but the player believes he's come out of the ordeal a better man.
Brown has made his presence felt over the initial stages of training camp. He's making catches, emerging as a red zone threat, and working after practice with the defensive backs on improving his ability to create separation. That will be key to his outlook.
Just what sort of role Brown will play remains to be seen. But in terms of his roster spot, that looks pretty secure.
For now, at least.
Malik Spencer - Commanders DB
The Commanders are all about providing opportunities. Whether you're an established franchise cornerstone or starting from the bottom, everyone is getting a chance to impress. Not everyone will take advantage, but some are already starting to seize the moment.
Malik Spencer is among them. The undrafted free agent defensive back joined the Commanders this offseason after failing to hear his name called during the 2026 NFL Draft. Though disappointing, it's given him the motivation needed to maximize every moment in Washington to secure an extended stay.
Spencer is starting to look comfortable, according to reports. The former Michigan State star was a standout performer on Day 2 of training camp, hauling in two interceptions. There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead, but this is the best possible way to get noticed.
The Commanders always preach the importance of getting the football back. If Spencer can gain a couple of turnovers in the preseason, he's got a fighting chance of making the 53-man roster.
