We are now two weeks into what's been a largely positive training camp for the Washington Commanders. However, things took a concerning turn with a devastating injury to elite left tackle Laremy Tunsil.
That could derail everything Washington is trying to accomplish. Head coach Dan Quinn will focus on what he has, and general manager Adam Peters will survey the landscape before deciding if more is required. Tunsil is a cornerstone piece, but as always in the NFL, it's next man up.
A big few days are upcoming for the Commanders. They have joint practice with the Miami Dolphins before their opening preseason clash against the AFC East club. Business is picking up, and the onus is on the players to cement their roles or force their way into the team's plans.

Winner No. 1
Joshua Josephs - Commanders OLB
More hype has gone to the likes of linebacker Sonny Styles and wide receiver Antonio Williams when it comes to the Commanders' 2026 NFL Draft class. However, fifth-round selection Joshua Josephs is also starting to make his presence felt at the best possible time.
Josephs looks explosive. His first step off the snap is impressive, and he's got the bend to make things difficult for opposing offensive linemen. Perhaps more important is his ability to drop back into coverage, which fits well into Daronte Jones' versatile defensive system.
The Tennessee product remains behind some experienced pass-rushers on the depth chart right now, but if Josephs can shine during the preseason, the Commanders will have to find ways to get him onto the field.
Winner No. 2
Jeremy Reaves - Commanders S
There is still a competition for the starting safety role opposite free-agent signing Nick Cross. Even so, it seems as if Jeremy Reaves might be the guy.
Reaves has had an outstanding camp, according to reports. Dan Quinn was gushing in his praise of the defensive back, wishing he had a lot more players with his passion, leadership, and influence. The Commanders' secondary will be versatile, but the South Alabama product could have a key role.
This will be Reaves' ninth season in Washington. He's risen from the shadows to become an All-Pro special-teamer before eventually earning a spot in the defensive rotation. Based on his efforts so far in training camp, his influence is only growing.
And the Commanders are counting on him to deliver when it truly matters.
