There have been very few constants throughout some turbulent times for the Washington Commanders in recent years. But head coach Dan Quinn once again highlighted an underrated yet integral member of the roster at training camp.

When asked about who is really standing out on and off the field, Quinn quickly pointed to veteran safety Jeremy Reaves. He just wishes there was more than one of him for the Commanders to lean on during a make-or-break year in 2026.

"We could definitely use a lot more Jeremy Reaves. He's just a remarkable teammate, player. He's really made his presence felt."

Jeremy Reaves' influence within the Commanders is only growing

Reaves is an underdog story for the ages. Undrafted out of South Alabama, he fought with everything to stick around in Washington, becoming an All-Pro special-teamer before making a more prominent impact on the defensive rotation last season.

The Commanders recognized Reaves' rising influence with another one-year extension, keeping him around until the 2028 offseason. He's part of the fabric now, and Quinn's emphatic statement only emphasizes just how essential he's become on the field and as an inspirational leader in the locker room.

Just how much time Reaves sees on the defensive rotation is moot. He already knows how to make an impact in other ways, and his ongoing evolution into a true talisman is refreshing to hear for a player beloved by fans.

There are limitations, but Reaves is never found wanting for effort. And this is something his teammates should have no trouble feeding off when the regular season begins.

It's hard to find players like this. And the Commanders are lucky to have someone like Reaves.

He rose from the bottom. He stuck around in Washington during some torrid years, emerging as a beacon of hope amid all the constant doom and gloom. Reaves approaches everything with the same relentless mindset every day. That is the best example imaginable for others to follow.

Quinn recognizes this, and has almost from the moment he got into the building. For all the hype around draft picks, free-agent signings, and franchise cornerstones, every ambitious team needs the glue guys as well. Reaves fits this role superbly, and leading from the front is a responsibility he takes extremely seriously.

Reaves is a key cog in Washington's plans for a resurgence this season. This is his ninth campaign with the Commanders in their various guises — a true rags-to-riches tale that everyone can get behind. And the esteem in which he is held by players and coaches is higher than it's ever been.

But don't let that fool you; Reaves carries much more weight than that. Quinn's comments just proved it.
