Loser No. 4

David Blough - Commanders OC

Dan Quinn is getting heat for the Washington Commanders' significant blunder that tied their game against the New York Giants. As head coach, he carries the can. Offensive coordinator David Blough has gotten little attention by comparison, but he's got blood on his hands too.

Blough is the primary communicator with quarterback Jayden Daniels on the field from down to down. He's the play-caller, and based on players' comments after the contest, a play definitely went in. A spike or a throwaway would have been enough, but it descended into chaos instead.

There was just under a minute left. There was no urgency, which suggests the Commanders didn't realize they had no timeouts left. The coaching staff should have relayed that information clearly to the players, and they didn't.

This was a disgusting way to finish any game. Quinn will take the criticism, and rightfully so, but Blough is also responsible for this failure, and he must be better moving forward.

Winner No. 3

Rasul Douglas - Commanders CB

The Commanders' defense may have capitulated in the second half, but a few encouraging performances deserved recognition amid the chaos.

Rasul Douglas was one of them. The veteran cornerback is shining with extra responsibilities on his shoulders, providing assurance in coverage and physicality at the point of contact that was sorely lacking before.

This was another tremendous performance from Douglas. He looked comfortable, and even though he gave up a couple of catches to Giants tight end Isaiah Likely, he tackled well and even made his presence felt in the backfield.

Even with 2025 second-round pick Trey Amos close to returning, Douglas should still have an important role. Bringing him on board was a shrewd move, and the Commanders will rely on him fully as the campaign goes on.

And if the same strong performance levels continue, the Commanders may even give Douglas a new one-year deal when the time comes.

Loser No. 5

Dan Quinn - Commanders HC

The pressure is building on head coach Dan Quinn. This was his chance to build momentum with a tough final game before the bye week, and the Commanders blew it.

Washington's final sequence was a disaster. Quinn took full accountability, but the complete ineptitude with which the situation was handled was unacceptable for someone so experienced.

Upon listening to the players in the locker room, this was a coaching failure. Quinn doesn't call the defense anymore. He certainly doesn't run the offense, so it's his job to manage in-game situations.

No timeouts. With 50 seconds left after Rachaad White's run, the Commanders were comfortably in field goal range. A play came in, that much is obvious, and quarterback Jayden Daniels didn't see the situation for what it was before it was too late.

Quinn was inconsolable on the field after the clock ran down. Very few went up to console him, which says a lot. He might be losing the locker room, which only ends one way.
