The Washington Commanders are the laughingstock of the entire league after their botched final sequence in overtime to tie against the New York Giants in Week 5. And the blame game didn't take long to begin.

Both quarterback Jayden Daniels and head coach Dan Quinn faced the music in front of the media. They both took accountability, but it was a collective failure rooted in abysmal situational management and a complete lack of awareness.

Poor communication. No real urgency in a high-stakes situation. I could go on, but this is a blunder of epic proportions that could have massive ramifications.

Commanders' overtime disaster was a collective display of abysmal management

Daniels admitted he needs to be better. He should have been more in tune with the situation, but he also said everyone from the top down has to step things up. That includes Quinn, who is now under more pressure than ever to save his job prospects beyond 2026.

"We all gotta be better situationally, football starts with me. We gotta stop the clock, we gotta know it's o-zone situation, we gotta relay that as an offense, top down, ultimately it's on me. I just gotta be better."

It was a disaster. Quinn and Daniels are to blame, but offensive coordinator David Blough doesn't get a pass, either.

He's Daniels' primary communicator on the field. Blough is a rookie play-caller, but he's been in the league for years. He, like Quinn, should know better, and they have to be moving forward.

Run out the clock. Spike the ball or throw it away. Kick the field goal to potentially win.

It's not that hard. The Commanders just made it look that way.

Commanders must have some tough conversations after epic overtime blunder

What Daniels was doing, I'll never know. Why was he fighting for extra yardage that wasn't needed? Just get rid of the football and live to fight another day.

Again, it's not that hard.

These are fundamental flaws that are threatening everything the Commanders are trying to build.

Making sure everyone is aware of the situation is basic stuff. The Commanders were not in sync, and for all the talk of brotherhood and improved functionality after Quinn fired both coordinators, the same cracks are already showing.

Something has to give eventually. Whether this epic blunder will be the tipping point is debatable, but unlikely. Daniels passed the buck to a certain extent, knowing full well it will be Quinn who carries the can.

That wasn't the best look, but the damage has been done.

Make of that what you will, but all is not right in Washington. And this inept sequence only confirmed what fans have seen with their own eyes this season.

Win as a team. Lose as a team. But this was something else entirely.

And there is plenty of blame to go around.
