The NFC East performed better than expected in Week 1, as the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants all picked up wins, leaving the Dallas Cowboys as the only team who dropped their opening game.

With the Cowboys headed for serious regression and both the Giants and Commanders looking better than most expected, it’s not farfetched to say the division could be tightly-contested throughout the 17-game slate.

But who deserves to sit atop the NFC East power rankings after Week 1?

4. Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys could find themselves at the basement of the division power rankings for the foreseeable future with Dak Prescott out indefinitely following thumb surgery. Even when Prescott was upright Sunday night against the Bucs, the Cowboys offense was toothless.

Not only did Dallas fail to score a touchdown, but they never made it inside the Buccaneers’ 30-yard line. Not once. Almost seems impossible.

While Prescott was poor, you can largely thank the front office for this nightmarish performance after they traded Prescott’s favorite weapon, Amari Cooper, and cut starting right tackle La’el Collins for run (his replacement Terence Steele committed four penalties) and failed to find viable replacements at either position.

The Cowboys’ defense has loads of talent, but they won’t be able to overcome the offense’s crippling deficiencies.

It’s been reported Dak could return in four weeks, which seems, unlikely. Will Dallas and Cooper Rush be able to tread water until he returns? You tell us. Their next four games are against the Bengals, Giants, Commanders and Rams.
