There’s nothing like starting the season off on a high note. Amazingly enough, three quarters of the NFC East did just that on Sunday, as the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants all pulled out victories, leaving the Dallas Cowboys as the only team in the division who dropped their opener.

As much as we want to troll the Cowboys for their all-time dud against the Buccaneers in primetime Sunday night, there’s really no sense in poking fun at a team whose quarterback suffered a major injury. If you can isolate the two, then by all means throw endless shade at the perennial underachievers.

The Cowboys are going nowhere fast this season. Their roster was a trainwreck to begin with thanks to the front office, but Dak Prescott is now out indefinitely with a thumb injury suffered Sunday night that requires surgery.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the rough timeline for Prescott’s recovery is between 6-8 weeks. It’s a brutal turn of events for Prescott, who’s just two years removed from suffering a gruesome dislocated ankle that forced him to miss all but five games of the 2020 season.

You’d think Cowboys fans would have sympathy for their QB as he headed to the tunnel to get his hand examined, right? Not even close, actually.

Caught up in the emotion of a nationally-televised beatdown, some classes fans threw garbage in Dak’s direction as he exited the field.

Commanders fans will get a kick out of Cowboys fans throwing garbage at an injured Dak Prescott Sunday night.

Yes, there were some boos sprinkled in there, too.

These classless “fans” don’t represent all of Cowboys Nation, but this video encapsulates every reason the team is hated across the NFL. Not only will Dallas dominant the opening segments of every major sports show whether they’re good or bad, but a lot of their fans — Skip Bayless being the poster child —  are insufferable and make rooting against them that much easier.

Throwing garbage at an athlete at any sporting event is a despicable act.

The fact the items were targeted at Prescott, though, makes this video all the more embarrassing. And we don’t want to hear the excuse that these “fans” didn’t know the quarterback was injured at the time. For starters, that doesn’t excuse the action of throwing garbage at a player. Injured or not, no player deserves that.

Beyond that, why else would Prescott be headed to the locker room with team trainers? Why else would Cooper Rush be under center? While a blowout, the Cowboys never trailed by more than three scores. As long as he was healthy, Dak was going to finish the game.

It’s one thing for Dallas to embarrass itself on national television. The fact a couple brainless fans added insult to literal injury by throwing garbage at their now-out-of-commission quarterback makes this a dream weekend for Commanders fans.

And that has nothing to do with Prescott’s injury, though it obviously boosts the Commanders odds of winning the division and making the playoffs. That’s more of an added bonus than anything else.
