It's no secret that the Washington Commanders are looking for wide receiver help. Whether Brandon Aiyuk eventually joins the franchise or not, fans are still expecting general manager Adam Peters to find another potentially dynamic presence via the 2026 NFL Draft with the scope to assist immediately.
And if the Commanders don't go with Ohio State product Carnell Tate at No. 7 overall, there could be an intriguing option to consider a little further down the pecking order.
Washington only has six picks, and two of them are in the first four rounds. That diminishes the margin for error, but Peters has some extra flexibility after an aggressive offseason so far, which has brought 14 new faces to the franchise.
Zachariah Branch should be on the Commanders' radar after superb pro day
Two of those were wideouts. The Commanders signed Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson Jr., but they are depth pieces to increase competition lower down the depth chart rather than game-changing options with long-term upside. More is required, and Zachariah Branch could be a possible option to consider in the third round if he makes it that far.
Branch made his transfer to Georgia count, bringing in 81 receptions for 811 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He's been a fast riser throughout the pre-draft assessment phase, and the wideout put the exclamation point on his credentials at the next level with a fantastic showcase at the Bulldogs' recent pro day.
One thing that stood out during drills was Branch's movement. Everything is aligned; he's explosive out of his cuts, and his change of direction is compact, with the fluidity to consistently generate separation.
Zachariah Branch (WR, Georgia) flashing elite suddenness in this drill with explosive COD, violent plant-and-go, instant acceleration. Some label him a niche weapon, but his USC tape shows real route variety, and at Georgia, he’s put out high-level body control and burst. pic.twitter.com/KEfmlgtnaU

At 5-foot-9, Branch's size may be an issue. But if he sticks to the slot and finds a scheme that can maximize the clear strengths he brings to the table, he's got a good chance.
If Aiyuk joins, he'll probably be the X receiver opposite McLaurin. It doesn't seem likely that Deebo Samuel Sr. will be back in free agency. Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane can take over slot responsibilities, but Branch could be an upgrade on both. And if the Commanders get the chance to take him at No. 71 overall, this could be an absolute steal.
Branch has done his NFL aspirations a tremendous amount of good over the last year. It is not easy to excel in the SEC, but he stepped up seamlessly. If the Commanders are willing to overlook the lack of size, the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Cliff Branch would be an intriguing addition to David Blough's offensive plans.
Branch's pro day rubber-stamped his soaring stock. And it might not go unnoticed by the Commanders when the pivotal selection event arrives.
