Adam Peters will never settle.

General manager Adam Peters isn't known for sitting on his hands when it comes to seeking improvements. The Washington Commanders underwent a roster overhaul this offseason, as expected, and the aggressive front-office leader might not be done just yet.

Peters is happy enough to give those vying for roster spots or important roles a chance to impress for now. The Commanders immediately raised the tempo during organized team activities, which received a positive response. At the same time, this is a constant evaluation with the stakes increasing.

Based on the reports emanating from Washington's recently concluded OTAs, it might provoke Peters into another bold move to rectify a potential complication emerging on the depth chart.

Commanders may need better depth in the defensive trenches

The Commanders are projected to move into a 3-4 base defense under Daronte Jones. This will change depending on the down and distance, but it's the widespread consensus. It's something Washington's new coordinator was part of while with the Minnesota Vikings, so it makes a ton of sense.

Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw, and free-agent signing Tim Settle Jr. are projected to slot into the starting spots. It's a formidable trio, but there are concerns attached. Head coach Dan Quinn also believes this is the year Johnny Newton will finally take off, but he needs to improve his run strength before his confidence increases.

The cupboard is relatively bare aside from that. And given how many injuries tend to occur in the trenches, more is required.

Shy Tuttle could be a useful backup, but his recent career trajectory isn't especially encouraging. D.J. Davidson was acquired this offseason, but he faces a fight to make the team. The same goes for undrafted free agent Jeffrey M'ba, who might have to settle for a place on the practice squad.

Peters may decide to let things play out. But if he decides more is required, the former San Francisco 49ers executive should act decisively.

There are some intriguing veterans on the market who could fortify depth and add to the rotation. Larry Ogunjobi and DaQuan Jones are the most prominent names available. The Commanders could also bring back Eddie Goldman, who performed relatively well in difficult circumstances last season.

Other opportunities will become available as the summer progresses. Good players will be released, which is something the Commanders could exploit. There may also be a level of contentment in the defensive line options inside the building to stand pat, but Peters is in no position to settle.

There is too much at stake for the Commanders next season. Heads could roll with any further failings, and the urgency throughout the offseason dictated as much. Settling is not an option, so don't be surprised if one or two new faces arrive before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Who it'll be or what position they'll be playing is another matter.
