Frankie Luvu - Commanders LB
The Washington Commanders prioritized the linebacking corps this offseason. Bobby Wagner's time with the club had run its course, and for defensive coordinator Daronte Jones' scheme to work, the second level needed explosiveness and versatility.
Mission accomplished.
The Commanders signed Leo Chenal in free agency. They spent the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on Sonny Styles, who is a three-level threat capable of becoming a franchise cornerstone. This duo has already raised the bar, and it looks like Frankie Luvu will be the glue holding everything together.
Luvu is moving back to his off-ball role. According to those in attendance, he was given the green dot responsibilities early at OTAs, a responsibility previously held by Wagner. This might go to Styles at some stage, but the former Washington State standout certainly looks the part.
It's a contract year for Luvu, and fans are expecting a massive bounce-back as he returns to a much more familiar position.
Antonio Wlliams - Commanders WR
There is an enormous amount of intrigue around Antonio Williams. The rookie wide receiver may have been disappointed about falling into the third round before the Commanders ended his slide at No. 71 overall, but he's got a real shot at prominent involvement with a smooth transition over the summer.
The Commanders have concerns in their wideout room, aside from Terry McLaurin. Almost everyone else has a point to prove, and they don't boast any legitimate production over a consistent period. Williams is the wildcard, and he hasn't taken long to catch the eye.
Williams is a sharp route runner with assured hands. He knows how to control his body quickly after the catch, and he's reportedly picked up the scheme incredibly well. The impact made so far has already drawn praise from Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota, which isn't a bad platform on which to build by any stretch.
Chig Okonkwo - Commanders TE
There remains serious debate centered on whether the Commanders have done enough to provide Jayden Daniels with the firepower needed. We've already brought up the wide receiver questions, but some are forgetting an arrival elsewhere that could be a game-changer in no uncertain terms.
The Commanders signed tight end Chig Okonkwo for decent money in free agency. While his production was modest with the Tennessee Titans, it wasn't exactly the best environment in which to flourish. That instantly changed in Washington, and his intriguing athleticism is something Zach Ertz couldn't provide at such a late stage of his playing career.
Those in attendance over the early stages of OTAs were highly impressed by Okonkwo. His aggression, dynamism after the catch, and ability to attack the seams were notable. While it's in shorts with no pads, these traits also flashed on his tape at Tennessee.
Hopefully, this is a sign of what's coming when the regular season arrives.
