The Washington Commanders' decision to release starting center Tyler Biadasz was among general manager Adam Peters' most contentious offseason moves. He was a popular member of the locker room and loved by the fans, and doing almost nothing to truly replace him raised more than a few eyebrows.

Biadasz found work almost immediately after his departure from Washington, signing a multi-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. He made an imposing start to life in new surroundings, exceeding expectations and looking like the glue-guy quarterback Justin Herbert needed as the offensive line's anchor.

Momentum was building back in his favor. Now, it's been eviscerated in the most heartbreaking way possible.

Tyler Biadasz's post-Commanders revival dealt heartbreaking injury setback

The former Wisconsin standout suffered an injury during the Chargers' joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers. Biadasz couldn't put any weight on his leg and was carted off to further testing. The concerns were glaring, and it's as bad as everyone feared.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Biadasz is out indefinitely after sustaining damage to his ACL and other parts of his left knee. Jim Harbaugh revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that the lineman is getting a second opinion. But looking at how dejected the head coach was when discussing the issue, it's not looking good.

This is a devastating blow to Biadasz.

Getting cut by the Commanders was disappointing, but he showed tremendous resolve to hit the ground running elsewhere. Now, if the second opinion says the same thing, the respected figure is set for a grueling period of rehabilitation to get healthy.

The NFL is a cruel world. Injuries are always the worst thing about this time of year, and Biadasz is the latest in a long line of top-level players who've had their plans thrown into tatters.

Washington has not been immune from the injury bug, either.

Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is possibly out for the entire 2026 campaign with a torn triceps, and several others are also dealing with issues. Even the man chosen to replace Biadasz at center, Nick Allegretti, is working his way back from a calf strain suffered on the first day of training camp.

It's a horrible part of the business. Biadasz has just found that out to his cost.

He's a tough character. Biadasz will know the size of the task awaiting him. He'll need to be mentally and physically tough. But it looks like he'll be watching the 2026 campaign from the sidelines.

Just a brutal break when the tide was starting to turn in his favor.
