The Washington Commanders are without four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs in Week 5 against the New York Giants. Terry McLaurin's status is also hanging in the balance as he works his way back from a hamstring issue.
With quarterback Jayden Daniels returning to the lineup, the Commanders need his supporting cast to be firing on all cylinders. McLaurin is a big part of that, but he missed Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts in London and was barely seen on the practice field this week.
That makes his situation extremely unpredictable.
McLaurin was officially listed as questionable, and it seems as if it will be a legitimate game-time decision before the Commanders officially confirm his status.

Latest update on Terry McLaurin's status for Commanders vs. Giants in Week 5
The Commanders are taking it right to the wire with McLaurin. They will give him a chance to prove his fitness, likely during a pre-game workout, but it could still go either way right now.
ESPN beat reporter John Keim stated that there is a slight lean to McLaurin playing as things stand currently, but nothing is set in stone by any stretch of the imagination.
WR Terry McLaurin remains a gametime decision (hence: questionable). At this point a slight lean to him playing, but it’s just slight per source.

What Dan Quinn said
"Terry, I thought looked really good today (Friday), so we'll decide the closer we get to the game. It was excellent to have him back on the field."

Previous updates
McLaurin reportedly wanted to play in Week 4, but the Commanders erred on the side of caution. He wasn't spotted on the practice field Wednesday or Thursday, but the Ohio State product did get in some work on Friday. And according to Quinn, he looked pretty good.
How he comes out of this will be the biggest measuring stick. Hamstring issues can flare up quickly if players come back too soon, but the Commanders will give McLaurin a shot at featuring at Northwest Stadium.
What this means for the Commanders
If McLaurin misses another game, it will be a blow. Without Diggs to depend on either, the Commanders will rely on their other playmakers to step up.
Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, and third-round rookie Antonio Williams will be the preferred trio if McLaurin cannot suit up. More will also be asked of tight end Chig Okonkwo, and he must deliver. Outside of that, there is Luke McCaffrey, and veteran Van Jefferson Jr. has also been called up from the practice squad as an insurance policy.
None of these options compare to McLaurin, obviously. But with Daniels leading the charge under center, the Commanders still have a strong chance to build much-needed momentum against a divisional foe.
