It didn't take long for wide receiver Terry McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels to form a close bond. Even though the duo didn't play much together last season, the Washington Commanders will be counting on both heavily when competitive action begins again in 2026.

McLaurin knows what Daniels brings to the table. This is the best quarterback he's ever played with, which is exactly a high bar for which to aim. The chemistry was first-class, and if general manager Adam Peters adds to the skill positions in the not-too-distant future, the chances of bouncing back will be high.

Daniels and McLaurin will be eager to make up some lost time. Before then, the 2019 third-round pick out of Ohio State confirmed what fans had always suspected about Washington's franchise player.

Terry McLaurin highlights Jayden Daniels' competitiveness as reason Commanders can bounce back

When asked who was the most competitive player on the team, aside from himself, McLaurin had no doubt. It's Daniels, which comes across in almost everything he does.

"I would have to say, Jayden Daniels. Jayden is an unbelievable competitor. I don't care if we're shooting hoops in the locker room, he just wants to win everything."

This will not be breaking news to those who've followed Daniels' career closely.

He's a driving force with the natural aura that teammates willingly follow into battle. His competitiveness can be his undoing, leading to unnecessary hits and, in last season's case. frustrating injury problems that restricted him to just seven appearances. However, it's also what will spearhead Washington's path to potential redemption.

McLaurin's been around a lot of quarterbacks, but he sees something different in Daniels. The talent is there — most signal-callers who enter the league have something about them. Even so, very few have the inner will and determination to keep pushing forward, never taking a back step, and always striving to grow. That is what sets the former LSU standout apart.

It's a critical year for McLaurin and Daniels. The quarterback is looking to remind the world why he was considered elite as a rookie. And considering that he will be extension-eligible after the campaign, there is an enormous amount on the line. As for the pass-catcher? He's looking to avoid speculation around his future.

Rumors are already swirling that this could be McLaurin's final season in Washington. Hopefully, that won't be the case, but it does raise the stakes for staying healthy and returning to his Pro Bowl-caliber production.

Daniels will be doing everything in his power to help. And McLaurin knows that when the chips are down, he's got a quarterback who'll battle with everything he has to turn the tide.

Write them off at your peril.
