Commanders at 49ers - Week 6
- Date: Monday, October 18
- Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
- Venue: Levi's Stadium
- Channel: ESPN/ABC
The Washington Commanders' final game before their much-needed bye week is tough. And to pile on even more pressure, it's on Monday Night Football, with the entire NFL audience watching.
Even though the San Francisco 49ers have endured more torrid luck on the injury front, they have quickly emerged as a leading contender.
Kyle Shanahan's squad is undefeated so far, sitting at 4-0. They have already beaten the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos. The Niners are finding ways to cope without some key men, and quarterback Brock Purdy is playing as well as any signal-caller in the league.
San Francisco's offensive line is formidable, led by former Washington left tackle Trent Williams. Running back Christian McCaffrey is playing at a high level, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. will be out for revenge against the team he played for last season.
This looks like a massive challenge for the Commanders. At the same time, they have no pressure on their shoulders in this one.
Everyone will be expecting the Commanders to get turned over convincingly. This might let them play with an extra sense of freedom, which fueled their stunning upset over the Seattle Seahawks.
- Prediction: Loss (2-4)
Still, this does look like an immensely tall order. But if the Commanders can keep it competitive, that will provide some comfort before their extended rest period.

Commanders vs. Eagles - Week 8
- Date: Sunday, November 1
- Time: 8:20 p.m. ET
- Venue: Northwest Stadium
- Channel: NBC
Another prime-time game awaits the Commanders when they get back from their bye week. The Philadelphia Eagles visit Northwest Stadium for what promises to be a pulsating Sunday Night Football clash, and the stakes are incredibly high for these bitter NFC East rivals.
The Eagles are in turmoil. Their late collapse against the Los Angeles Rams left more questions than answers, and quarterback Jalen Hurts is struggling to find any rhythm. Prolific running back Saquon Barkley is week to week with a hamstring injury, and future Pro Football Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson has now retired to focus on his mental health.
This is the second meeting this season between the two clubs. The Commanders came close to beating the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, but left it too late in the end. However, if they can start better, especially offensively, they have more than enough to emerge with a victory.
That will be easier said than done, especially if the offensive line cannot put up any sort of fight against Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. But if the Commanders gain some early momentum, they have a shot.
- Prediction: Win (3-4)
This is a divisional game where form often goes out the window. But with the Commanders fresh and with extra time to prepare, they have enough to get the job done.
