Fans are eagerly anticipating the Washington Commanders' first official outing under the new regime. It's been nothing short of a whirlwind for everyone associated with the franchise this offseason as Josh Harris' ownership group put their bold plans into action. Things look remarkably well with hope increasing, but how many improvements arrive in 2024 remains to be seen.

Dan Quinn and his staff did a tremendous job over the spring and summer preparations. They got everyone on the same page quickly, implemented their new schematic concepts effectively, and ensured each player was aware of their respective responsibilities. It's been refreshing to see the renewed energy in the building - something that leaves many wondering what this group could accomplish if the same trend continues next season and beyond.

We'll get the chance to Washington's football product in a typical game-day setting for the first time when they travel to the New York Jets this weekend. Saturday's preseason opener won't see the starters on the field for long. However, the Commanders are giving rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels the starting gig after earning the right throughout a memorable offseason for the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft so far.

The Commanders and Jets went at it during a fascinating joint practice on Thursday. This stoked the fire for their warmup encounter at MetLife Stadium, which begins at noon Eastern Time. It also seems as if both clubs got a bit of good fortune on the weather front based on current projections.

Weather report for Commanders vs. Jets is encouraging

Tropical Rainstorm Debby is set to hit the New Jersey region on Friday, bringing heavy rain and thunderstorms. Fortunately for the Commanders, the latest weather report suggests it will be long gone by the time they descend on MetLife Stadium.

The forecast projects it to be sunny with a few clouds. Winds gusts could reach 20 kilometers per hour and it will be less humid. However, the prospect of lingering flooding following Friday's expected downpour is possible.

This is great news for the Commanders. Getting a genuine evaluation of players when conditions aren't great can be challenging. Having this sort of environment allows for better execution providing everyone is on the same wavelength. Had the tropical storm decided to wait a day before the contest in East Rutherford, there's a chance it would have been canceled entirely.

Preseason results aren't important. Everyone knows this. However, there is a need for the Commanders to set the correct tone and provide confidence they are no longer the pushover of previous seasons. That starts by getting off on the right foot and playing fundamentally sound in all phases. Nothing else will do.

Getting some tremendous luck on the weather front is a big boost. It also means there will be no excuses not to perform well. Something that could play a significant role in whether some make the 53-man roster or not when it's all said and done.
