Optimism is higher surrounding the Washington Commanders than at any stage in recent years. It's a franchise rejuvenated after Josh Harris' ownership group set their grand plans into motion. Everything looks improved. They also have a potential franchise quarterback to spearhead this new era.

After much deliberation during their assessments, the Commanders honed in on Jayden Daniels at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. He's got the tools needed to galvanize an entire organization. His seamless transition from college to the pros this offseason only lifted anticipation about what this team could accomplish with the Heisman Trophy winner under center.

Nobody is expecting Daniels to immediately enter the elite category in Year 1 of his professional career. Rookies go through some growing pains and can sometimes become overawed depending on the opposition. If the club's prized possession can emerge with more good than bad from his opening campaign under center, that's a solid foundation from which to build.

Analyst expects Commanders QB Jayden Daniels to shine in 2024

Chris Trapasso from CBS Sports expected Daniels to take the rough with the smooth in 2024. The analyst believes he can help the Commanders put significant points on the board en route to a promising first season. Whether it's enough for the team to achieve overall progress is another matter.

"Is this a group that should be serious NFC contenders in 2024? No. Could [Jayden] Daniels be the catalyst in some high-scoring victories? Probably. He has an underrated arm and overall arm talent to make throws when the pass rush doesn't allow his footwork to be perfect. Daniels can carry the Commanders at times. Daniels' tendency to take hits and sacks concerns me, particularly behind the offensive line he's been afforded. Don't be surprised if he has splashy games and some outings where a blitz-happy defensive coordinator bamboozles him. The future will look bright after what is a mostly positive rookie season for the No. 2 overall pick."

This seems to be the consensus. Daniels looks like a superstar, but he cannot do it alone. Adam Peters turned over more than half the roster during his first offseason as general manager. It's in a better place as a result. At the same time, it might not be ready to contend for honors as things stand.

Daniels boosting confidence in his quest to become Washington's next franchise signal-caller is the primary goal. After that, everything else will fall into place. More importantly, the Commanders will become a coveted destination once again.

Fans will rally around and give Daniels every ounce of support he needs to take this team back to the NFL's top table. It'll be a rollercoaster with plenty of adversity to overcome. That's they the Commanders spared no expense to put an outstanding support system in place to cope with almost every eventuality.

Daniels has the fate of one of the league's most storied franchises in the palm of his hand. That's a lot to ask of any first-year pro. Fortunately, the dual-threat force looks more than capable of meeting the lofty heights anticipated.

Providing there are no significant hiccups, it's all systems go.
