3 teams Commanders need to call about a Chase Young trade
By Ryan Heckman
2. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are an absolute mess. And, quite frankly, the vast majority of football fans have to love it. It had been way too long seeing the Patriots atop the NFL, and now, their fan base finally has something to complain about. It's a nice change of pace, if you ask me.
New England has problems, and lots of them. We can talk about their offensive woes all day long, and whether or not Mac Jones is the guy, but this conversation hails on the defensive side of things. The Patriots are currently fourth-to-last in the league with just 12 sacks on the year, and they might be going into 2024 without one of their top guys off the edge.
Josh Uche is in the last year of his deal and the Patriots haven't given him a new one just yet. Bill Belichick is one who wouldn't balk at the idea of letting him go just for the sake of letting him go, but then he'd have a massive hole to fill.
Speaking of a Belichick move, trading for Young would be on par. The Patriots have long been known to bring in some bigger names with question marks (health, for Young) and allow Belichick to try and prove them right. This would be yet another opportunity for him to do so, and like most teams wanting to trade for Young, Belichick and the Patriots would probably want to extend him.
