4 quarterbacks connected to Adam Peters the Commanders could target

4. Sam Darnold
Finally, we come to another former no. 3 overall pick in Sam Darnold, who was taken by the New York Jets back in 2018. Darnold spent just this past season with San Francisco as the team's primary backup to Brock Purdy, so Peters has only one year of experience with the former USC Trojan.
Still, Darnold could be a bridge option like Garoppolo, and he'd be far cheaper. Darnold might actually be a good quarterback to bring in as competition for either Howell or someone to push a rookie. If the Commanders entered the season with Howell and Darnold, I don't think most fans would be comfortable. So, this could be a situation where Washington holds three quarterbacks.
Darnold will be a free agent, so he won't cost much. At this point, he's been relegated to mostly a backup role. I don't think he'd be a fit to come in and start, but as a backup, I'd have no problem with this move. In his last two seasons, in limited action, Darnold has thrown nine touchdowns to just four picks while passing for over 1,400 yards in seven starts.
