Washington Commanders vs. Cardinals early odds and prediction for Week 1
By Dean Jones
The Washington Commanders are gearing up for what promises to be an electrifying regular-season opener against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.
FedEx Field is going to be absolutely rocking on Sunday when the Washington Commanders begin their 2023 campaign against the Arizona Cardinals. The landmark occasion is already sold out, which is another strong sign that fans are starting to embrace the team again now that the dark cloud of previous ownership isn't forcing them to stay away.
Some influential figures within the Commanders have a lot of pressure on their shoulders next season. Ron Rivera is firmly on the hot seat after an indifferent three years at the helm, with Eric Bieniemy also coming under the microscope with full offensive control following his high-profile switch from the Kansas City Chiefs.
As opening games go, this couldn't be much better for the Commanders. No contest represents a gimme where the NFL is concerned, but the Cardinals are going through some changes, will be without stud quarterback Kyler Murray, and also made some head-scratching personnel moves that came with accusations of tanking.
If the Commanders cannot win this one, it'll suck the life out of FedEx Field and ruin all the positive momentum generated throughout the summer. Rivera is dealing with a couple of key injury concerns, but there is more than enough talent to get their season off on a positive note.

Commanders vs. Cardinals prediction for Week 1
As previously stated, this is a tremendous opportunity for the Commanders to begin on the right note. The atmosphere will be unlike anything even the most seasoned Washington veteran on the roster has experienced before, which is positive energy that can be harnessed into improved production.
Much will depend on Sam Howell's performance level and whether the offensive line provides the protection needed. But all signs point to a Washington triumph and it wouldn't be a big shock if they covered the spread comfortably for good measure.
Seven points look pretty generous. Once the professionals get stuck in later this week, one would expect the line to be around -8.0 or -8.5 by the time game day arrives.
