How to watch Commanders vs. Buccaneers in NFL Week 1 with and without cable
By Dean Jones
After a long, frenetic offseason where fans barely had time to catch their breath, the Washington Commanders begin the 2024 regular season this weekend with a tricky-looking trip to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a chance for head coach Dan Quinn to make an immediate statement of intent and prove the NFC East basement-dwellers are not going to go down without a fight this time around.
The Commanders turned over more of their roster than almost any team this offseason. New general manager Adam Peters was ruthless, implementing a business-first model and collaborative approach that was sorely lacking previously. It might take time for everything to come together, but the team's ever-suffering fanbase can relax safe in the knowledge there is a genuine long-term plan in place for sustainable growth.
If the Commanders are dealing with the potential conundrum of meshing a plethora of new faces quickly, the Buccaneers are in the opposite predicament. The reigning NFC South division champions made a considerable effort to keep their established stars together for one more go-around, which works in their favor heading into the clash.
Wide receiver Mike Evans, quarterback Baker Mayfield, linebacker Lavonte David, and standout safety Antoine Winfield Jr. all got contract extensions as a result of their efforts this offseason. This should enable Todd Bowles to hit the ground running despite losing offensive coordinator Dave Canales to the Carolina Panthers.
Can the Commanders put their newly-acquired positivity to good use and attain a morale-boosting victory? Or will the Buccaneers' already-developed chemistry and home-field advantage prove too difficult to overcome?

Let's hope the Commanders can start their competitive engagements with a win on the road. It won't be easy - not by any stretch of the imagination. But with momentum growing and quiet confidence within the building, Quinn will be expecting a rousing performance from his players to keep things competitive, at the very least.
