Commanders News: Sam Howell, Sale lawsuit, K.J. Henry and Doug Quon
By Dean Jones
Which Washington Commanders news stories are hitting the headlines as the transactions and drama keep coming for the organization in 2023?
While there is normally a lull in news and information at this time of year, that doesn't appear to be the case where the Washington Commanders are concerned. Various storylines are still attached to the team heading into the preparation period, some of which could be franchise-altering both on and off the field depending on how things play out.
Among the stories causing debate recently include optimism surrounding quarterback Sam Howell, a suspended trainer being reinstated by the Commanders, K.J. Henry looking to make his mark, and Brian Davis takes losing out on buying the franchise badly.
Let's delve into each topic in more detail.
Commanders re-hire Doug Quon
There was an eye-catching transaction by the Washington Commanders on Friday evening when the team confirmed via The Washington Post that they had re-hired trainer Doug Quon. Of course, the staff member was placed on leave almost a year and a half ago due to the DEA investigation that saw Ryan Vermillion suspended indefinitely.
Quon received no such sanctions after a thorough process examining his role in these accusations. After he was spotted at the team's recent rookie minicamp, the Commanders released a statement via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk that he was back in the building full-time.
"Player health and safety is our top priority, and we are pleased to continue to build up our training staff with another seasoned professional with the reinstatement of Doug Quon in the role of assistant athletic trainer. We are happy to welcome him back."
