Logan Thomas' pivotal Commanders role

Even though many fans expected Logan Thomas to be a salary-cap casualty this offseason, the Washington Commanders never seriously considered the possibility. And based on how things unfolded throughout early offseason workouts, a big role in Eric Bieniemy's offense could be in the player's immediate future.

It's no secret that Bieniemy's offense relies heavily on tight-end production. While the Commanders don't have anything like Travis Kelce to depend upon, Thomas might be a decent starting option providing there are no further complications on the health front.

Having Cole Turner breathing down his neck for his share of targets is sure to enhance Thomas' sense of urgency. But the veteran is starting to feel like his old self based on recent revelations via the team's website.

"It [being healthy] gives me a leg up compared to where I was last year. Got a little bit of my explosiveness back. I'm able to launch a little better than I was. I'm excited just to be out here working with the guys getting better and learning a new offense. Just being able to go out there and make cuts that I wasn't exactly comfortable making last year and making them completely normal this year."

This is all positive for Thomas and the Commanders. The former quarterback knows how much is at stake from a personal perspective in 2023, but having Bieniemy calling the shots might result in a career year statistically with a full 17-game season under his belt.
