Commanders OL Mason Brooks making waves

Mason Brooks was a top priority for the Washington Commanders once the 2023 NFL Draft concluded. The versatile offensive lineman can count himself extremely unfortunate to have gone undrafted, but Ron Rivera made him a lucrative offer to ensure he came on board despite significant interest from elsewhere,

There are many questions surrounding Washington's offensive line both from a depth and starting standpoint. Something that could mean Brooks gets a legitimate shot at making the 53-man roster as a key swing presence.

When discussing how Brooks has integrated into the Commanders and what the Ole Miss product might be able to offer, Rivera seemed pleased with his progress based on comments via Sports Illustrated.

"He may not have started a lot, but he played a lot of football. He’s shown some position flexibility more so anything else, that's always something that we always feel is an important thing. There was a general toughness that we liked and that we thought, this is a guy that could come in and help us out. If you can get a guy like that as a undrafted free agent, you gotta see and take a shot."

There is a long way to go for Brooks and any other hopefully looking for a chance. He's off to a good start, but going up against Washington's ferocious defensive linemen when the pads go on at camp will be the toughest test of his fledgling career so far.
