Commanders sale could happen in stages

The Washington Commanders will fall into new hands at some stage this offseason. But a recent report suggests there are plenty of hurdles to overcome before something becomes official.

This has nothing to do with Josh Harris' group, which has the infrastructure and the finances to come through with their ambitious plans. The potential complications center on Dan Snyder, to absolutely nobody's surprise.

According to Mark Maske and Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, the sale could be confirmed in stages. This begins with conditional approval of the $6.05 billion offer and ends with Snyder agreeing to certain stipulations regarding the allegations and investigations associated with his leadership.

"For the sale to be completed and ratified, the other owners will want Snyder not only to drop any attempt to be indemnified himself but also to indemnify the league and the other owners against future legal liability and costs, according to one of those people."

Nothing is ever straightforward when Snyder is involved. The billionaire is renowned for being stubborn and petulant, so it remains to be seen whether or not he'll bow to the NFL's demands and get this long-awaited sale over the line.
