Commanders News: Ron Rivera, Josh Harris, Andrew Luck and Budda Baker
By Dean Jones
Which Washington Commanders news stories are hitting the headlines as the team looks set to escape yet another set of sanctions from the NFL?
Rookies and veterans are set to come together this week for the formal start of OTA offseason workouts. Players have been put through their paces in a more relaxed setting in recent weeks, but expect the tempo to noticeably ramp up as the Washington Commanders look to build the right foundations for a successful campaign.
This is normally a quiet spell of the offseason, but it's not the case where the Commanders are concerned. Among the stories causing debate recently include Ron Rivera's status among other NFL head coaches, Josh Harris receiving criticism, a potential trade target, and a development in the Andrew Luck saga.
Let's delve into each topic in more detail.
Commanders 'unlikely' to receive Andew Luck sanctions
After a report surfaced about the Washington Commanders sounding out Andrew Luck in their search for a quarterback last season, the league was asked by Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay to investigate further. And it's clear he was far from pleased considering any such approach needs to go through him before anyone else.
This could have resulted in a huge fine or perhaps even the loss of draft compensation depending on the outcome. As it turned out, the Commanders are unlikely to receive any penalties relating to the alleged approach according to Mark Maske and Nicki Jhabvala from The Washington Post.
The two reporters were the first to reveal that the initial account from John Keim of ESPN was denied by sources close to Luck's camp. Hopefully, this will be the end of the matter and everyone can move on.
