Ron Rivera on Commanders future
There aren't many stalwarts remaining who believe Ron Rivera will be Washington Commanders head coach beyond 2023. Many are also starting to get the feeling his removal could occur even before the current campaign concludes.
Sunday's embarrassing loss versus the New York Giants was the latest in a long line of failings under Rivera's watch. This franchise cannot seem to get over the hump - especially against teams they are expected to beat - which has been the hallmark of his tenure despite restoring respectability from a cultural standpoint.
When getting the inevitable questions about his future during Monday's press availability, Rivera's focus remains the same based on comments via Pro Football Talk. He's worrying about the next game and what he can control rather than what might come somewhere down the line.
"I can only control what I can. What happens beyond today, what happens beyond the end of the season, that’s not in my control. So everything I can do is focus on today, the present. That’s the only thing I have. I’ll try to get that across to the players as well. I can’t focus on what I can’t control. I try to focus on the Cowboys and just take it one day at a time. I try to focus in on what’s important today, and that’s preparing for Dallas. We’re all frustrated. We’re all trying to get this thing corrected. We’re all trying to do the best we can."

Josh Harris is normally a patient man when it comes to this sort of thing with his sports franchises. At the same time, relieving Rivera of his duties after Thanksgiving or during their bye week provides an opportunity to see what Eric Bieniemy can do as interim head coach.
Watch this space, I guess…
