Kazmeir Allen's potential Commanders role

Perhaps no player did more to help themselves at this year's rookie minicamp than Kazmeir Allen. The Washington Commanders feel like they could have a steal on their hands after picking up the do-it-all weapon in undrafted free agency, with many analysts surprised the former UCLA star didn't hear his name called at some stage on Day 3.

Allen is using this as extra motivation and clearly has Washington's attention. When speaking about the player via The Commanders Wire, head coach Ron Rivera's level of intrigue was evident.

"Kazmeir Allen played some slot for them [UCLA], some wide receiver for them, some running back for them and then he returned both kickoffs and punts for them, and he did ’em in the bowl game in the All-Star games as well. So he’s a young man that most certainly has gotten our attention, and he’s a young guy that we went out and tried to make sure we were able to recruit and bring him in as a free agent."

Considering how much of a priority those in power made Allen once the 2023 NFL Draft concluded, he might have a role to play despite the depth Washington has at the skill positions. But how the player gets on when joining up with established veterans for OTAs and training camp will be of critical importance.

It was a good start from Allen, who has the explosiveness and elusiveness to make things happen. So he's definitely someone worth monitoring closely throughout the summer.
