Although the majority of starters won't be participating, this is a good opportunity for fringe players to stake one final roster claim before the dreaded cuts begin.

Jacoby Brissett to start final Commanders preseason game
After Sam Howell played longer than anticipated on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens, the Washington Commanders have seen enough from their new QB1 to be confident. Therefore, Ron Rivera is giving the former fifth-round selection and the majority of other starters the night off versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
This provides an opportunity for Jacoby Brissett to get an extended run of reps before he becomes Howell's support system and primary backup. The free-agent signing came into the Commanders with hopes of starting, but it was clear from some way out that wasn't going to be the case.
In fairness to Brissett, he's assumed the mentor role well and has been a tremendous asset for Howell to call upon. Something the Commanders hope can inspire the North Carolina product to better fortunes with significant pressure on many in positions of power around the building.
