Ron Rivera's next potential destination

Despite the Washington Commanders suffering four-straight losing seasons under head coach Ron Rivera, it doesn't seem as if the recently fired individual will be out of work for long. Perhaps his head coaching days are over, but teams looking for help on the defensive side of things could do far worse than look in his direction.

According to multiple reports, the Philadelphia Eagles will be conducting an interview with Rivera for their vacant defensive coordinator position. Sean Desai and Matt Patricia were both made surplus to requirements following the team's alarming collapse that eventually ended with a shock playoff loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Considering the pressure on head coach Nick Sirianni heading into 2024, an experienced figure is almost essential.

Rivera seems to have plenty of fire remaining. He's spoken at length about how enjoyable it was to focus on coaching the defense after firing defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, even if this came with an 0-5 record and conceding 168 points during that span. Not having to worry about other areas of the team might also be a refreshing change of pace.

Of course, there's the added revenge element attached. Getting an instant chance to get one over on his former employers twice a season within the NFC East only adds more incentive. Rivera is a hard guy to root against after everything he's endured in recent years, but that's exactly what every Commanders fan will be doing if he crosses enemy lines.
