Commanders urged to seriously consider Eric Bieniemy

There has been no interest from outside the Washington Commanders when it comes to head coaching destinations for Eric Bieniemy. His first season running an NFL offense and calling plays came with mixed reviews. Some players didn't take kindly to his hard-nosed methods and unwillingness to alter his approach.

Bieniemy got an interview for the Commanders' gig. Whether he's in serious consideration is debatable, but Isaiah Deanda Delgado from Sports Illustrated urged those in power to give him the job based on his success around winning organizations previously.

"Washington will need a leader who can develop a culture, and after years of helping cultivate a winning environment in Kansas City, Bieniemy is one of the winningest head coach candidates out there. Commanders fans may not view him as the most exciting head coach hire. Still, Bieniemy might be the ma’am needed to flip this team from being a bottom dweller to a playoff contender, just like the Houston Texans accomplished with rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans."

While there could be merits to hiring Bieniemy, it seems like a sideways move all things considered. The Commanders need a hard reset. Several intriguing candidates are being considered arguably more progressive than the current assistant general manager/offensive coordinator. Promoting from within after a four-win campaign doesn't seem like the smartest course of action.
