Commanders shutting shop at No. 2

Even though the Washington Commanders have been locked into taking a quarterback at No. 2 overall for some time, speculation remained about whether general manager Adam Peters would be tempted into trading down for a king's ransom. It was a contentious issue among the fanbase once upon a time. Some would still like to see the transaction take place.

That said, it seems for all the smart money as if the Commanders have shut up shop. Peters stated during his pre-draft media availability that feels good about the options available once Caleb Williams goes to the Chicago Bears. But according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo from the NFL Network, that didn't stop the Las Vegas Raiders from calling one more time to see if they could alter their thought process.

"While the Commanders and Patriots have received calls from teams attempting to move up for a QB, Washington has shown no indication it would move, per me and Mike Garafolo. New England would move for the right offer, but the Pats just haven't gotten such an offer yet. Not surprisingly, the Raiders are among the teams who tested the Commanders on moving out of 2, even after Washington GM Adam Peters told the media the team planned to stick and pick, sources say."

The Raiders have made no secret of their admiration for Jayden Daniels. That said, the Commanders hold all the cards and control the draft with everyone fully aware of what the Bears have planned. Peters hasn't shown his hand just yet, but it would be a shock if those in power haven't made their choice by this point.

If the Commanders had any semblance of doubt about the quarterback prospects available after researching each of them so thoroughly, it would be a different story. Peters seems confident in one of them to resist any offer that comes his way, which only adds more confidence heading into the big night.
