Commanders news: Jayden Daniels, Adam Peters, rankings and shutting shop

Commanders in the pre-draft power rankings
It's been a dramatic offseason for the Washington Commanders with more on the way when the 2024 NFL Draft commences. Adam Peters and Dan Quinn wasted no time in making significant alterations to the roster with the bounty of assets available. Some tough decisions were made, but it's evident the new regime didn't think too much of Ron Rivera's squad looking at how many veterans weren't brought back or became surplus to requirements ahead of time.
Couple this with the improved professionalism and collaboration within the building, and it's not hard to see why optimism is rising among the fanbase. Getting through the 2024 NFL Draft with some immediate contributors and improved depth is only going to inspire further confidence.
Of course, the Commanders have to put everything together in a competitive environment after emerging as one of the league's worst operations in 2023. Something that was reflected in the pre-draft power rankings from Amelia Probst of Pro Football Focus, which has Washington at No. 29 despite an impressive recruitment period so far.
"The Commanders did well this offseason, adding linebackers Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu, tight end Zach Ertz and running back Austin Ekeler. Their 25th-ranked defense lost cornerback Kendall Fuller and edges Montez Sweat and Chase Young."
This represents a reality check of sorts. While progress will be almost guaranteed if the Commanders find the right quarterback at No. 2 overall, expecting miracles immediately is foolish and unfair in equal measure. Peters has a plan in place for sustainable growth, so there needs to be a level of trust attached to the process despite this fanbase being starved of legitimate accomplishments throughout the tenure of previous owner Dan Snyder.
Rome wasn't built in a day. At the same time, there is also a chance things could enhance much sooner than anticipated if Peters maximizes every resource at his disposal during the draft.
