Commanders HC Ron Rivera praised

Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills represents a reunion of sorts for Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera. The respected figure - who gained the 100th win as a figurehead last time out at the Denver Broncos - gets set to welcome Sean McDermott to FedEx Field, who served as his defensive coordinator during a hugely profitable spell with the Carolina Panthers that almost resulted in an elusive first Super Bowl for the franchise.

McDermott got a well-deserved promotion and deserves credit for the job he's done with the Bills so far. However, there is a growing belief that Buffalo's window might be closing unless they reach the promised land in 2023.

That's a topic up for serious debate. But when discussing coming face-to-face with Rivera in a competitive setting, McDermott couldn't hide the esteem in which he holds his former mentor based on his comments via USA Today Sports.

"You try to take the best you see from those around you, and I’ve learned a lot by being around coach [Rivera], whether it be in Philadelphia for those years working under Andy Reid or in Carolina when I was working under coach Rivera. He’s a great leader and a great head coach. He’s well-deserving of all the attention he gets."

There will be a nice embrace between the pair before the game. After that, it should be all business.
