Outgoing Commanders owner Dan Snyder's legacy
Dan Snyder might be stubborn and a man-child, but he's not going to jeopardize more than $6 billion at the last minute. Therefore, expect the Washington Commanders sale to go off without a hitch when other NFL owners meet to officially approve the Josh Harris group's record-breaking purchase on July 20.
The Commanders can look forward to an exciting new era. Snyder walks away with a healthy profit, but a legacy that will be remembered as one of the league's worst-ever ownerships.
This was a topic discussed recently by Ivan Lambert from USA Today Sports. While the writer acknowledged that Snyder's reign has been a disappointment, fans should also attach perspective despite having to endure almost nothing but misery for more than 24 years.
"Yes, Daniel Snyder is right to be blamed for much of the wrong for which he is blamed during his unsuccessful ownership of the Washington NFL franchise. However, Snyder will also be demonized. He will be made the scapegoat for everything that went wrong. He will be the fall guy, the stooge, the schmuck. Yes, often he was. But consider all the comedy of errors from the business side in the last couple of seasons. Consider Snyder didn’t coach or play during all these losing seasons. There is enough blame to go around. Snyder doesn’t appear to have been a Donald Sterling, nor on par with George Preston Marshall, who was the last NFL owner to integrate. Let’s keep this all in perspective, shall we?"Ivan Lambert, USA Today Sports
There won't be many shedding a tear for Snyder or adding any perspective to his turbulent tenure. The sooner it's forgotten, the better.
