Commanders select Drake Maye in 2024 mock draft
It won't be much longer before the Washington Commanders and others around the league begin discovering more about those entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Assessment events aplenty are upcoming, so getting Adam Peters in place to lead the football operation quickly was a smart bit of business by Josh Harris' brain trust.
The Commanders are rich in assets. They also have the No. 2 overall selection and multiple options on the table. Although nothing can be dismissed currently, all signs point to Washington taking one of the top quarterback prospects when it's all said and done.
This was a sentiment echoed by Cam Mellor from Pro Football Network in his latest mock draft. He tipped the Commanders to select North Carolina prospect Drake Maye, who brings some exceptional traits to the table following a standout college career.
"The consolation prize for the Washington Commanders selecting No. 2 is that the work is done for them if they fall in love with both quarterback options. Here, the Commanders grab North Carolina’s Drake Maye but would have been just as happy to grab Caleb Williams. Maye is the heir apparent to Sam Howell once again, raising the proverbial floor for the Commanders. He’s a talented passer with an incredible pocket presence who can make every throw. The new regime in Washington has a new face of the franchise all the same."

Maye and Caleb Williams are the consensus top-two quarterbacks emerging this year. Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels is also gaining significant momentum. It's a potential dilemma for the Commanders, but they have the right man leading the charge after convincing Peters to leave the San Francisco 49ers.
