Bombshell Commanders trade possibility makes no sense (for now)
By Dean Jones
Adam Peters has been more concerned about stockpiling draft picks rather than dispensing them on incoming trades during his first few months as the Washington Commanders general manager. This was evident once again during the final roster cut process, with wide receiver Jahan Dotson traded to the Philadelphia Eagles and defensive tackle John Ridgeway III shipped to the New Orleans Saints.
The Commanders didn't go for broke with a move for Brandon Aiyuk despite his reported willingness to reunite with his old college teammate Jayden Daniels. Peters seems content with what he has right now after signing Noah Brown. Whether this mindset changes as the campaign goes on is another matter.
NFL analyst believes the Commanders could trade for Davante Adams
One NFL analyst made a stunning projection. Mina Kimes, during an appearance on Dominique Foxworth's podcast, claimed the Commanders could be a potential trade destination for All-Pro wideout Davante Adams before the deadline. This is predicated on picking up a few wins and believing Daniels is ready to take a bigger leap than initially anticipated in Year 1 of his professional career.
"I think the Raiders are going to be a bad football team… I think by midseason (the Commanders) will have won enough games and seen enough with (rookie quarterback) Jayden Daniels where they want to invest in him midseason… the Commanders strike me as a team that are going to be like just feisty enough to want to do this [trade]."

This would be awkward considering Adam's less-than-complimentary comments about Washington's fanbase and the franchise overall recently. Things look a lot different now, so it couldn't be completely dismissed in the crazy world of the NFL.
It would be a bombshell in no uncertain terms when one examines the way Peters has approached his ruthless roster-building strategy up to now. At the same time, it ignores the current philosophy the former San Francisco 49ers executive is working to during the first year of what was a substantial overhaul.
Adams is a difference-maker. An elite route-runner and one of the best wide receivers of the modern era. Frustrations threatened to boil over with the Las Vegas Raiders last season - something that might continue this time around considering they are moving forward with unpredictable veteran signal-caller Gardner Minshew under center.
If this sees the Raiders become more receptive to trade offers, Peters will do his due diligence. The contract is manageable looking at Washington's strong financial position. Pairing Adams with Pro Bowl pass-catcher Terry McLaurin is a mouth-watering proposition that should strike fear into every secondary around the league.
It's fun to think about. Trades involving elite-level performers always are. However, the chances of Adams ending up in Washington are remote. Besides, the former Fresno State standout wouldn't be short of offers from teams with better chances of contending immediately. That might be the biggest stumbling block above all else if the Commanders did show an interest.
File this one under a wild notion. But if the Commanders quickly emerge as a surprise package, who knows what Peters will have up his sleeve?
