Adam Peters had a lot of hard work ahead of him this offseason. The general manager came into the Washington Commanders with a blossoming reputation in league circles and looked more than ready to take on this monumental challenge. It's early days, but the franchise looks in great hands at long last.

Peters turned over two-thirds of the roster in ruthless fashion. The Commanders needed a makeover in the worst possible way. He accomplished this effectively without making rash gambles and chasing big names that became synonymous with the organization throughout Dan Snyder's ownership reign of terror.

This ensures the Commanders still have financial flexibility in the coming years. Very few can be considered cornerstone pieces with long-term prospects. Some can enter this equation during the upcoming campaign, which only adds to the level of fascination in Year 1 of this exciting new era for Washington football.

With that being said, here are seven Commanders players who can vastly outperform their pay grade in 2024.

Sam Cosmi - Commanders OL

  • 2024 salary-cap hit: $3.66 million

After breaking out following his transition from right guard to the interior, Sam Cosmi is now recognized as one of the league's best young guards. This was arguably the only move Ron Rivera got correct on the offensive line - something the Washington Commanders can benefit from long-term if the same trend continues.

Cosmi was a revelation as all around him crumbled. He was almost flawless as a pass blocker and demonstrated encouraging progress on running plays for good measure. The former second-round selection has a lucrative new contract in his sights with similar or improved production in 2024.

Adam Peters would be wise to give Cosmi a long-term deal sooner rather than later. The price is only going up with every dominant display the Texas product puts in throughout the campaign. His current cap hit of $3.66 million will be blown out of the water this time next year if everything goes according to plan.
