Jabril Cox - Commanders LB

Before the New York Jets game, I would have suggested benching Cody Barton here. But the veteran free-agent signing played his best game of the year against Gang Green, and you do your team no favors by benching an improving player.

Khaleke Hudson has also earned his time on the field. Although I do not believe he is the answer to the Washington Commanders' linebacking woes.

I don’t think Jabril Cox is either, but I know a lot of fans were excited when the Commanders snatched him from the Dallas Cowboys early this season.

So far, he has not played a single defensive down. He has only appeared on special teams. He should not be starting. Instead, he should take over David Mayo’s backup spot.

Cox is not exactly suited to play Mayo’s run-stopping role, but he has to start somewhere. Put him out there for about 20-30 snaps and see if he can make plays.

The former LSU stud is a tall, rangy player with good speed. Injuries have delayed his progress, and he came into the league needing some further development. He needs a fair amount of playing time to shake off the rust and show what he can do.

You would think he would love to get a crack at the Cowboys. This should provide some extra motivation if nothing else.
