James Pierre - Commanders CB

The Washington Commanders have openings aplenty available on their cornerback depth chart heading into their 2024 training camp. Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Benjamin-St-Juste, Michael Davis, and rookie Mike Sainristil are locked into spots. After that, it's up for grabs.

Dan Quinn likes his corners to be big, fast, and physical within his expansive schematic alignments. James Pierre fits this mold after joining in free agency, but his alarming lack of involvement last time around after a promising 2022 campaign is a cause for concern.

Pierre looked like a profitable career could be in the offing after thriving for the Pittsburgh Steelers once upon a time. He's getting another opportunity to prove himself, so the 6-foot-2 defensive back cannot waste this chance to re-establish his credentials.

The Florida Atlantic product won't be the only one who fancies his chances of involvement. Pierre needs to provide assured coverage and potentially make his presence felt on special teams to guarantee he remains part of Washington's plans. Anything less could see his time with the franchise come to an abrupt halt just a few short months after his arrival.

Kazmeir Allen - Commanders WR

The NFL's new kickoff rules stand to benefit the return team greatly. They want more excitement while keeping the reduced risk of violent collisions. It came as no surprise to see specialists such as Cordarrelle Patterson get signed immediately after these exciting alterations were approved by owners.

This changes everything for those who can make a difference returning the football. The Commanders allowed several players to showcase what they could bring to the table over early workouts. These will narrow down as camp progresses, but it would be a surprise if Kazmeir Allen wasn't right in the thick of things when push came to shove.

Allen looked like a strong candidate to make the roster in 2023 before eventually settling for a place on the practice squad. He's still around, so the new regime wants to get a closer look at his credentials before making a formal decision.

The former undrafted free agent out of UCLA is explosive and elusive. Maximizing every touch over Washington's upcoming camp and the preseason will help enormously. However, the Commanders could easily go with someone more experienced such as Jamison Crowder or Damiere Byrd.
