7 Commanders players firmly on the roster bubble heading into 2024 camp
By Dean Jones
Pressure will rise and intensity will soar when the Washington Commanders get down to business at their annual training camp. This is the most integral part of their 2024 season preparations by a considerable margin. This bears special significance given the newfound optimism enveloping the franchise after a dramatic few months.
Everything has improved. From the front office to the coaching staff and playing personnel, there's ambition where once there was nothing but pessimism. Dan Quinn and his team must lay the foundations for success over camp to raise optimism further about what this organization could potentially accomplish next season and beyond.
These vast alterations won't be good news for everybody. Veterans and fledgling stars alike will be working exceptionally hard to cement their respective statuses in the coming weeks. Some will make it. Others won't raise performance levels accordingly and will be moved on with little fanfare attached.
It's a high-stakes situation for almost everyone. With this in mind, here are seven Commanders veterans firmly on the roster bubble entering the team's 2024 training camp.
Braeden Daniels - Commanders OL
The Washington Commanders have no idea of Braeden Daniels' ceiling. He struggled to cope over camp last summer before going to season-ending injured reserve before the campaign. There's not a lot to like about his hopes of extended involvement under the new regime, but there's still time to turn things around.
Nobody is expecting Daniels to propel himself up the depth chart. Nothing the former fourth-round selection put together during his first camp with the team inspires confidence. A phenomenal effort is needed to remain part of Washington's plans in the coming weeks.
Daniels was another offensive tackle college prospect drafted by Ron Rivera who appeared better suited to the interior. He didn't look comfortable in any spot last time around. Whether improved coaching helps remains to be seen, but the Commanders will have no trouble cutting him loose if performances aren't up to the required standard.
