Commanders could re-sign Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby Brissett signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders in 2023. He came into the organization intending to beat out Sam Howell for the starting job. Despite his best efforts, it was clear from a long way out that wasn't going to be the case.

Brissett sat on the sidelines during game days more often than not. However, that does not detract from what a pivotal role he played behind the scenes.

He was a fantastic mentor to Howell, guiding him through the ups and downs of his first campaign as the team's starter. Brissett was an enormous help during weekly preparations. Simply put, the former North Carolina State star was a supreme support system.

When things began turning sour for Howell over the second half of 2023, it gave Brissett a chance to shine during cameo appearances. It was a small sample size, but his pocket presence and ability to hit receivers in stride was there for all to see.

Had the veteran not suffered a hamstring injury down the stretch, the Commanders would have started him over the final two games. Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition, but there could be some merit in re-signing the player given the potential to have a rookie quarterback on board next season.

Brissett's guidance would be vital - as it was with Howell. But it would be surprising if any interest from the Commanders was mutual given his desire to compete for starting reps.
