Joey Slye - Commanders K

Ron Rivera liked surrounding himself with familiar faces. He relied heavily on those he'd worked with previously to provide some sort of security blanket. Some have worked out. Others failed to deliver.

In truth, Joey Slye sits somewhere in the middle. The kicker has a huge leg that can make unbelievable efforts from almost anywhere. This doesn't necessarily come with sufficient accuracy attached - especially in key moments.

Slye's field goal percentage has dropped to 78.3 from 23 attempts this season. This is the lowest since his rookie year in 2019. To make matters worse, the former Virginia Tech star has missed three extra points.

This isn't the best look for Slye at a position deemed more expendable than most. Given Rivera - the coach who's remained loyal to him throughout some indifferent performances - might not be around beyond the current campaign, there's a good chance the Washington Commanders go in a different direction in time for the 2024 season.

It's been a rollercoaster journey for Slye in Washington. He's lasted almost 2.5 seasons with the team. He held onto his job after a training camp kicking competition. But after another inconsistent season from the much-maligned figure, it's time for the Commanders to explore alternative options.
