Commanders could sign Calvin Ridley

This is a deep group of wide receivers emerging from the college level in 2024. It would be a surprise if the Washington Commanders didn't take advantage of that at some stage, especially given general manager Adam Peters' intent to build through the draft and supplement through free agency.

However, acquiring another capable veteran to go alongside Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson could also reap instant rewards. And the Commanders have plenty of spare cash to pull off this potential objective.

This becomes a more glaring need if the Commanders opt to move forward with a rookie quarterback. They must surround their new signal-caller with everything needed to hit the ground running. Washington lacked explosiveness in the passing game last season. Someone like Calvin Ridley would change all that in an instant.

Ridley looked a little rusty at times last season. That was to be expected after missing the entire 2022 season through suspension. He should be better for the experience, but his future with the Jacksonville Jaguars is hanging in the balance.

Aside from his contract demands, there are also the agreed trade stipulations to consider. If the Jaguars extend Ridley, their second-round selection would go to the Atlanta Falcons. This makes it far from a done deal.

The Commanders and others around the league should be watching developments closely. A wideout room consisting of McLaurin, Dotson, Ridley, and a high-end draft pick would be perfect for a young gunslinger to flourish.
