5 critical observations from Commanders 2024 training camp Day 2
By Dean Jones
There is no time for the Washington Commanders to bask in their newfound hope. Preparations for the 2024 campaign are gathering pace at the team's training camp, which is the most intense phase of what will hopefully become a stable foundation to improve when the regular season arrives.
Players and coaches are still getting back into the swing of things over the opening exchanges. The energy remains high - in keeping with what was on full display over early workouts. Optimism is growing, but nobody should be getting ahead of themselves at this critical period of the team's process.
Dan Quinn and his coaching staff have been around the block before. They're raising standards and implementing various tools to get this new-look roster together as one. Bonds are being enhanced thanks to the team's decision to stay in a luxury resort during camp. This is an overlooked yet important part of whatever chemistry they can generate before Week 1 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rolls around.
With that being said, here are five critical observations from Day 2 of Washington's training camp in 2024.
Critical observations from Day 2 of Commanders 2024 training camp
Tyler Biadasz imposes himself
Establishing a formidable offensive line is a huge piece of the Washington Commanders' puzzle this offseason. Things are sketchy on the edge, but the interior looks solid thanks in no small to the presence of two notable signings in free agency.
Tyler Biadasz will occupy the starting center position after signing from the Dallas Cowboys. This is an immediate upgrade on anything the Commanders placed at the critical anchor spot last season. It's early days, but the former Wisconsin star is off to a positive start.
According to those in attendance, Biadasz imposed himself early and often on Day 2 of training camp. He carved up running lanes for big gains and held his own in pass protection as veteran quarterback Marcus Mariota got the majority of reps with the first unit. This is exactly what the Commanders had in mind when they gave him a three-year, $29.25 million deal with a $13.5 million signing bonus and $20.7 million guaranteed this offseason.
